In contrast to the fear-based approach of both the evangelical and mainline curricula, A Joyful Path lives up to its name and nurtures the kind of carefree, faith filled attitude that we find so evident in the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A Joyful Path is intentionally designed for spiritually progressive communities and families. It emphasizes behavior over belief, encourages children to explore their inner wisdom, and fosters compassion, inclusion, and curiosity. If you're looking for a curriculum that aligns with the teachings of Jesus while honoring interfaith wisdom and ecological awareness, this may be exactly what you need. That said, many churches blend A Joyful Path with their existing denominational curriculum with great success.

  • Not at all. The teachings of Jesus are central throughout A Joyful Path. Each lesson includes Bible verses and reflections that help children connect with Christian values in an age-appropriate and relevant way. It also incorporates stories and insights from other traditions to nurture openness and empathy—never to replace, but to enrich understanding.

  • While designed with progressive values in mind, A Joyful Path is used by a wide range of congregations, including those exploring new ways to engage children meaningfully. If your community values spiritual growth, compassion, respect for diversity, and care for the Earth, you’ll find much to love in this curriculum, no matter your label.

  • We hear this concern often, and the answer is: not necessarily. Many churches have found success integrating select lessons from A Joyful Path alongside their current program. The curriculum is flexible and modular, so you can start with a few lessons and expand as your community grows more comfortable with its experiential and heart-centered approach.

  • A Joyful Path is grounded in Jesus' teachings and the values of love, justice, compassion, and inclusion. It does introduce practices like mindfulness, nature awareness, and interfaith respect, but always in ways that are spiritually enriching and never dogmatic. If anything, it brings Jesus' core message—love your neighbor, care for creation, and walk in peace—into a vibrant, modern context.

  • Absolutely. While A Joyful Path was originally created for Sunday School settings, many families and homeschoolers use it at home. The lessons are easy to adapt for smaller groups, and the activities, reflections, and stories work beautifully in a home environment.

    • Years One & Two are ideal for ages 6 to 10

    • Year Three is designed for ages 9 to 12

Each year is developmentally appropriate and can be adapted slightly up or down depending on your group’s needs.

  • Great! A Joyful Path doesn’t require you to start from scratch. Many congregations use it to complement existing materials, adding more depth, creativity, and interactivity to their programming. Think of it as a spiritual “booster shot” that works alongside what you're already doing.
